June 2025 | New Delhi
India’s largest direct income support scheme for farmers, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), is once again in the spotlight as crores of beneficiaries await the 20th installment, expected to be credited in June 2025. While the anticipation is high, an alarming number of farmers may not receive their ₹2,000 payout — not due to government delays, but because of missed formalities and errors in documentation.
What is PM-KISAN?
Launched in February 2019 by the Modi government, PM-KISAN aims to support the financial well-being of small and marginal farmers across India. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually, divided into three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. So far, the government has disbursed 19 installments successfully to over 11 crore farmers, injecting over ₹2.4 lakh crore into the rural economy.
The 20th Installment: When Is It Coming?
Based on previous trends, the 20th installment is expected to be released in the third or fourth week of June 2025. The 19th installment was credited on 24 February 2025, and the government generally follows a 4-month payout cycle.
However, unlike earlier times, this cycle could skip many names this round — unless farmers have taken care of some critical compliance updates.
Key Reasons Why the ₹2,000 Payment May Be Withheld
While enrollment in the scheme is crucial, it’s no longer sufficient on its own. The Ministry of Agriculture has outlined five major compliance factors that can block the upcoming transfer:
1. e-KYC Is Mandatory — No KYC, No Payment
The government has made it clear: no e-KYC, no money.
If your e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process is incomplete, your name could be removed from the payment list. You can complete the KYC process in two ways:
-
Online: Through OTP verification on the PM-KISAN official portal.
-
Offline: At the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) using fingerprint biometrics.
Delays in e-KYC verification are among the top reasons payments are withheld.
2. Incorrect or Inactive Bank Details
Payment failures often occur due to:
-
Non-linked Aadhaar and bank account.
-
Incorrect IFSC code.
-
Closed or frozen bank accounts.
Even if the government has approved your installment, such banking errors will result in transaction failures. Farmers are advised to check and update their bank details on the PM-KISAN portal or at their nearest CSC immediately.
3. Land Document Verification Pending
The PM-KISAN scheme is strictly for land-owning farmers. Those who have failed to verify or upload correct land documents risk being removed from the beneficiary list.
States have been instructed to identify ineligible recipients who may have submitted fake or incomplete land papers, and stop their benefits. If your documents are still pending for approval, your payment may be delayed or blocked altogether.
4. Not Registered in the Farmer Registry? That’s a Problem
A new requirement has emerged — even if you’re registered on PM-KISAN, you must now be listed in the State-level Farmer Registry.
This is an attempt to:
-
Avoid duplicate claims,
-
Ensure only genuine farmers receive benefits.
To register, visit your state agricultural department portal or CSC. Lack of Farmer Registry entry will result in disqualification from future installments.
5. Your Name Might Be Missing from the Latest Beneficiary List
Many farmers remain unaware when they are dropped from the list. To avoid surprises, farmers must:
-
Visit pmkisan.gov.in
-
Click on “Beneficiary Status” or “Beneficiary List”
-
Enter Aadhaar, Account, or Mobile Number to verify inclusion.
If your name is not there, you won’t receive the 20th installment — no matter how clean your records are elsewhere.
What Should Farmers Do Right Now?
Here’s a checklist to make sure you receive the ₹2,000 installment without any hiccups:
✅ Complete e-KYC through OTP or biometric.
✅ Update bank details (IFSC, Aadhaar link, active account).
✅ Upload verified land records to the PM-KISAN portal.
✅ Enroll in the state’s Farmer Registry.
✅ Check your status online to confirm your name is on the list.
“Don’t wait for the last minute. Any delay in compliance may result in missing out this time.“
How Many Farmers Could Miss Out?
During the last installment (February 2025), approximately 9 crore farmers received payments. However, the Ministry is tightening checks, and it is estimated that over 1 crore farmers might be left out this time due to non-compliance, especially with e-KYC and registry norms.

Why These Reforms?
The PM-KISAN scheme has seen multiple cases of misuse, where ineligible beneficiaries — including non-farmers, government employees, and tax-payers — registered using forged documents.
The government now uses Aadhaar, land mapping, and bank verification to block such leakages and ensure genuine farmers benefit. These new requirements are a step toward transparency and fiscal efficiency.
Final Word: Don’t Miss Out
The PM-KISAN scheme is a lifeline for small farmers, especially in a year hit by unpredictable monsoons and rising input costs. Missing this installment due to technical errors or delays in verification could mean missing out on timely crop investments and daily household needs.
Take action today. It’s not just about ₹2,000 — it’s about your right to a support system meant exclusively for you.
